What Are the Benefits of Attending a Pre-College Program?

precollege programPre-College Summer Programs offer rising juniors and seniors in high school the chance to see what college life is all about. During a one or two-week session, you will get an exciting glimpse of academics and residential life at a major state university, and leave better prepared to meet the challenges of your first year at college.

As a Pre-College residential student, you will:

* Attend challenging academic classes with the university faculty and instructors

* Meet admissions professionals and receive guidance on the competitive college admissions process

* Learn to balance the demands of college-level courses with extracurricular activities

* Live away from home and experience the independence and responsibility of college life

* Leave feeling more academically, emotionally and socially prepared to tackle your first year of college

* Learn more about a possible career choice.

The first few semesters in college can set the tone for your entire four years. A Pre-College can provide you with the confidence and experience you need to quickly adjust to campus life and begin your college years on the best possible footing.

As a Pre-College student, you can enroll in non-credit courses taught by faculty and teaching staff. For a description of this year’s courses, see the Pre-College Course Listing. Outside of class, you will have the opportunity to participate in College Success workshops on a variety of topics, such as Getting Into College, Financial Aid, College Writing, Career Planning, Money Management and Campus Life.

Pre-College residential students are part of a small, close-knit community. You will have a roommate and resident advisors (RAs) to provide personal guidance and academic support. You will live in a dorm, and the Pre-College meal plan will give you access to the school’s award-winning dining halls all over campus. Everywhere you need to go will be within walking distance or just a bus ride away, from the library to the bookstore to the downtown area.

When you’re not in class or studying, you’ll be hanging out with friends, participating in activities and workshops, attending social events, and enjoying summertime on the campus. For more information on the Pre-College experience, check out the Living on Campus and Academic Life sections of the school’s site.

This is the perfect chance to get a real taste of the residential college experience. Between the college-level academics, the valuable college admissions advice and the experience of living on your own, you will leave the college or university Pre-College more prepared for the challenges of your first year at college.

The preferred application deadlines vary. See Pre-College Pograms listed in the eBook College Bound: Proven Ways to Plan and Prepare for Getting Into the College of Your Dreams.
